Israel Approves Plan to Conquer Gaza City, Authorizes 60,000 Reservists

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has approved a military plan to conquer Gaza City and has authorized the call-up of approximately 60,000 reservists, his ministry confirmed on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the defence ministry verified the reports, which were first circulated in Israeli media, when contacted by AFP.

A military official told reporters that about 50,000 reservists would be mobilized beginning in September, with the main combat force in the next phase of operations consisting of active duty troops concentrating on Gaza City.
According to the same official, Israeli forces have already begun operations in the Zeitoun and Jabalia neighborhoods, signaling the initial stages of the new campaign.
