Israel’s security cabinet will meet Tuesday evening in Jerusalem to discuss developments related to Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesman confirmed Monday.

While spokesman Omer Mantzour did not disclose specific details about the meeting’s agenda, Israeli media reports indicate the focus will likely be on resuming negotiations for a ceasefire and a potential hostage release deal.

The meeting follows an earlier decision by the security cabinet in August to approve a military plan for taking control of Gaza City. However, attention now appears to be shifting back to diplomatic efforts.

Last Thursday, Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered the immediate resumption of talks aimed at securing the release of all remaining captives held in Gaza.

This directive came shortly after Hamas announced it had accepted a new ceasefire proposal from international mediators. The plan reportedly includes a staggered release of hostages over a 60-day period in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners currently held by Israel.

Amid rising public pressure, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum—the leading advocacy group for the families of those still held captive—has called for a national day of action on Tuesday to coincide with the cabinet meeting.

“An absolute majority of the Israeli people want to bring our loved ones home,” the group said in a statement.
“The deliberate delay of signing a deal for their return goes against the will of the people and our fundamental values — mutual responsibility and friendship.”

The outcome of Tuesday’s meeting could prove pivotal as pressure mounts both domestically and internationally to bring an end to the conflict and secure the release of hostages.
