Jonathan, Osinbajo, Mark, Others Attend Amaechi’s Son’s Wedding in Abuja
Top Nigerian dignitaries including Patience Jonathan, Dolapo Osinbajo, and David Mark graced the wedding of ex-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s son, Dr. Chikampa, and Anita Nwabueze in Abuja.
Abuja, the nation’s capital, played host to Nigeria’s political elite on Saturday as family, friends, and associates of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, gathered to witness the wedding solemnisation of his eldest son, Dr. Chikampa, and his bride, Anita Nwabueze.
Among the dignitaries present were former First Lady Dr. Patience Jonathan, Dolapo Osinbajo (wife of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo), former Senate President David Mark and his wife Helen, as well as ex-PDP National Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus.
Other notable attendees included Vanguard Newspapers Chairman Sam Amuka Pemu, former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia, ex-Plateau Governor Simon Lalong, Senator Olurunimbe Mamora, former Head of Civil Service of the Federation Chief Mrs. Amma Pepple, former NIMASA DG and Vanguard columnist Dr. Dakuku Peterside, and Senator Lee Maeba, among others.
The wedding Mass took place at St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, with clergy members in attendance. The first Bible reading, taken from Genesis 2:18-24, emphasised God’s intent to provide man with a helper, while the second, from 1 Corinthians 12:1-13, reflected on true love’s ability to endure challenges.
Delivering a short homily, Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama, urged the couple to consistently invite God into their marriage. He encouraged them to emulate and surpass the marital longevity of their parents — Amaechi’s marriage of 32 years and the bride’s parents’ 34 years. In a light-hearted moment, the Archbishop recalled Mrs. Jonathan’s famous phrase, “There is God O!”, drawing laughter from the congregation.
Father Steve, the officiating priest who has long served the Amaechi family, admonished the couple to avoid becoming a part of failed marriage statistics. He stressed the importance of sacrificial love, adding: “They have come to tell the world today that divorce is not part of their vocabulary.”
Quoting a study that three out of every ten marriages end in divorce, he charged the couple to walk with God daily to ensure their union remains among the enduring ones.
Following the church service, guests proceeded to Angeles Event Centre, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kado, Abuja, for a lively reception in honour of the newlyweds.
