A support group of the All Progressives Congress, Progressives Ambassadors for APC, has drummed up support for the Nigerian army over its sustained war on insurgency and dislodgement of terrorists from their hideouts in the North-East and North-West.

The commendation is coming in the wake of the military’s incursion in suspected enclaves where six abducted ladies and an infant were rescued by the troops.

The invasion, which was carried out by troops of ‘Operation Forest Sanity’, dealt a heavy blow to bandits hibernating in Kuriga and Manini communities of Chikun Local government area.

A statement issued on Monday by the group’s National Coordinator, Norbert Ikechukwu, described the gallant efforts of the soldiers as commendable.

The statement partly read, “We want to commend the military going by the manner they are curtailing the activities of banditry and insurgency. I urge Nigerians not to be afraid. We shall win this war.

“We understand that insecurity is a global problem. It is not limited to Nigeria. At the same time, we cannot continue to be in denial that we have such challenge in some parts of the country.”

While reacting to the furore that trailed the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket, Ikechukwu said that Nigerians, especially those at the grassroots must learn not to sacrifice competence for religion.

He said, “Nigerians at this moment should look beyond religion and ethnicity. We need people who are competent enough to revive the country. The issue of the Muslim-Muslim ticket shouldn’t be our priority.

“This is 21st century Nigeria where I think religion shouldn’t take the front burner. We as a people should be looking towards competence in terms of choosing leaders. We have a president coming from the South and a Shettima from the North. These are first and foremost Nigerians from two different regions, who have been tested and trusted in several levels of governance. We have a strong belief that their joint ticket is convincing enough to fly.”
