ASUU STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kaduna State branch on Tuesday dared the management of Kaduna State University over threats to resume academic session.

According to the union, no threats will force members to suspend the industrial action backed by constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The union branch chairman, Dr. Peter Adamu, stated this in an exclusive interview with THE PUNCH in Kaduna while reacting to a statement issued by the KASU management which threatened academic staff union to resume work or face sanctions.

Adamu said the strike action was legitimate and backed by national and international laws.

“There is no section of the law of Kaduna State University or Staff Condition of Service that stipulate any form of sanction on lecturers participating in an action that will benefit the university,” Adamu stressed.

He added, “The strike action is for the betterment of the University system and Kaduna State University inclusive.

“We are not bordered about any threat that would come because even during the military era, such threat came and they were overturned by thecourt of the land.

“We have not suspended the strike action. We are committed to the industrial strike action until the Federal Government respond positively.”
