JUST IN: Former Ghana president urges Nigerians to support anti-corruption crusade

Nigerians have been urged to support government efforts and ensure transparency in the fight against corruption in all sectors of the economy.

Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, made the call while speaking at the 53rd Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Ilorin on Thursday.

He stressed that corruption must be fought whether it occur in public or private sector for the good of the nation.

According to him, corruption grows as a result of the failure of the institutions that are established to fight it.

Mahama also said that those who signed contract documents that produce bad infrastructures have contributed to the destruction of the economy.

He urged all stakeholders in Nigeria and Africa to rise and defeat corruption in all its ramifications.

He also called for the use of asset declaration mechanism to fight corruption.

The Deputy Governor of Kwara, Mr Kayode Alabi, said corruption is an endemic problem that retard growth and development.

Alabi advised estate surveyors to partner with government at all levels to further strengthen their operation and contribute to the fight against corruption.

Earlier, the President, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Mr JohnBull Amayevbo, described corruption as a serious phenomenon that affect economic growth and development of a nation.

He said the institution would collaborate with government agencies to reduce corruption to the bearest minimum.
