JUST IN: Kidnappers kill husband, free wife after ransom payment

Some suspected kidnappers have killed a man, Augustine Okoye, along the Isua-Ise Akoko highway in Akoko South East Local Government area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the victim was kidnapped alongside his wife but their abductors released the wife while the husband was unlucky.

A source said the car which conveyed the victims had been recovered from the scene of the incident by the police, adding that the victim died after the ransom had been paid.

The source said, “Men of the state police command, the Ondo Amotekun corps and local vigilante groups were now combing the forest to recover the remains of the deceased and arrest the suspects.

“The wife of the deceased disclosed that their abductors warned her not to tell the ransom payments negotiators bringing money about the husband’s demise otherwise she would also be killed.

“This notorious Ise -Isua road has recorded many cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the past.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that one person had been arrested in connection with the incident.

“We have arrested one suspect over the incident and the anti-kidnapping section has taken over the matter,” the PPRO said.
