Kaduna Anglican Diocese Confirms Death of Kidnapped Priest, Cancels ‘Stand Up for Jesus 2025’

The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna has announced the death of Ven. Edwin Achi, who was abducted in October 2025, leading to the cancellation of the ‘Stand Up for Jesus 2025’ event. The Church continues to pray for the safe release of his wife and daughter still in captivity.

The Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, has announced the death of The Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero. His passing has led to the cancellation of the Diocese’s planned Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme.

The confirmation was shared on the Diocese’s official Facebook page. Ven. Achi, who was abducted with his wife on October 28, 2025, was declared dead while still in captivity. The Diocese described his death as a major loss to the Church, its clergy, and the wider Christian community touched by his ministry.

“His faithful service, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to God leave a lasting legacy,” the Diocese wrote.

Church authorities and members continue to pray for the safe release of his wife and daughter, who remain in captivity.

In honour of the late priest, the Diocese announced that the Stand Up for Jesus 2025 event has been cancelled. The statement ended with: “The Lord be with you.”
