A Kaduna man, Mr. Ishaku Joseph, has taken his daughter’s boyfriend, Yunana Zock, to a Customary Court over the alleged misappropriation of his late wife’s death benefits.

Prosecutor ASP Jeremiah Amfani told the court on Monday that Zock deceived Joseph’s daughter, Emmanuella, and withdrew N13 million that had been paid as her mother’s death benefits.

According to Amfani, the funds were transferred to Emmanuella’s account in 2023 since she was listed as the next of kin. The matter was investigated after Joseph reported the case to the police.

Testifying before the court, Emmanuella claimed the accused secretly took her ATM card and withdrew the money.

However, Zock defended himself, saying he had transferred N11.9 million into his girlfriend’s account with her consent, adding that she had promised to give him N2 million to start a business. He also stated that they shared ATM PINs while staying together in Abuja.

Zock presented an Opay account statement, which was admitted as evidence, and informed the court that he would call one witness in his defence.

Presiding Judge, Ms. Patience Musa, adjourned the case to September 30 for continuation of the defence.
