Kidnapper Killed as Kwara Police, Vigilantes Foil Abduction Plot in Gun Battle
Kwara Police and local vigilantes clashed with kidnappers in Adekanbi village, killing one suspect and recovering an AK49 rifle and ammunition. Others escaped with injuries as officers vow intensified security operations statewide.
One suspected kidnapper was shot dead while others fled with gunshot injuries after a fierce gunfight between Kwara State police operatives and local vigilantes on Thursday in Adekanbi village, Moro LGA.
According to information gathered by Opinion Nigeria, the joint security team recovered an AK49 rifle and 32 rounds of live ammunition at the scene. The gang was reportedly preparing to carry out a kidnap operation when officers, acting on intelligence, swooped in and engaged them.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued Friday evening.
“Acting on actionable intelligence on 13th November, 2025, at about 1000hrs, police operatives and vigilante members executed a rapid tactical deployment to Adekanbi village via Bode-Saadu, where armed bandits were sighted occupying a fortified hill-top,” she said.
She noted that the criminals opened fire on the security team, prompting a “swift and superior counter-engagement.”
“The overwhelming response forced the criminals to abandon their position with suspected gunshot injuries. A post-operation sweep led to the recovery of a neutralized suspect, one AK49 rifle, and 32 rounds of live ammunition,” Adeyemi added.
She emphasised that the successful operation reflects the Command’s strengthened rapid-response strategy under IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The police assured residents of continued aggressive operations across all identified flashpoints to maintain safety and security across the state.
