Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has denied claims circulating in the media that he was the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Moghalu expressed disappointment over what he described as “false and lazy reporting” by several media outlets that wrongly identified him as the LP flag bearer — in some cases even publishing his photo alongside the stories.

“I am distressed to have seen several news reports in newspapers and other media on the recently held Anambra State governorship election in Nigeria, citing ‘Kingsley Moghalu’ as the candidate of the Labour Party @NgLabour in this election, with some running my photograph along with their reports,” he wrote.
“These reports are false, unfortunate and smack of lazy reporting, as they were apparently conflating Chief George Moghalu, who was the Labour Party candidate in the election, with me.”

Moghalu clarified that he did not contest in the Anambra election, is not a member of any political party, and has not participated in partisan politics since 2022.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not a member of any political party in Nigeria. I was not a candidate in the Anambra State gubernatorial election held on November 8, 2025,” he stated.
“I resigned from participation in partisan politics in Nigeria in September 2022, ahead of the 2023 presidential election. I was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 presidential election.”

He urged media organisations that published the incorrect reports to issue corrections and retractions to prevent further misinformation.

The actual Labour Party candidate in the Anambra poll was Chief George Moghalu, who contested against the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to official results announced by Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin and the Returning Officer, Governor Soludo secured a decisive victory. Ukachukwu polled 99,445 votes, Soludo garnered 37,753, while George Moghalu placed fourth with 10,576 votes before rejecting the results, alleging vote-buying and underage voting.
