Kwara Monarch’s Son Regains Freedom After ₦20m Ransom, Father Still Held

The abducted son of the Oniwo of Afin in Kwara State has been released after a ₦20 million ransom was paid, while the monarch and other captives remain held as kidnappers demand more money.

The son of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, who was abducted in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been released after his family paid a ₦20 million ransom.

The victim, Olaolu Olanipekun, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, regained his freedom on Monday. His father, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, and other abducted residents remain in the custody of the kidnappers.

A family source confirmed Olaolu’s release, explaining that he was dropped at a herders’ settlement around Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government Area before being taken to a nearby military base, where his family was contacted.

The source added that Olaolu is currently receiving medical attention for physical and psychological trauma suffered during his captivity.

According to the family, the abductors are now demanding an additional ₦15 million for the release of the monarch and the remaining captives, while efforts to secure their freedom are ongoing.
