Kylian Mbappe set to buy second-division club Caen

According to French media on Monday, Kylian Mbappe, the captain of France, will take over as the club’s primary owner. Caen is a second-division team.

According to the daily Le Parisien, Mbappe, 25, who transferred from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid this summer, will pay 20 million euros ($21.6 million) to acquire an 80 percent share in the Normandy team from American investors Oaktree.

The World Cup winner of 2018 came dangerously close to joining Caen as a teenager before deciding to sign with Monaco.

Last season, Caen placed sixth in Ligue 2, and among their past players are N’Golo Kante, Mbappe’s France colleague, and William Gallas, an ex-defender for Les Bleus.

The two-time Ligue 2 champions, established in 1913, start the new campaign by hosting Paris FC on August 17.
