Labour Party Backs Law for Electronic Transmission of Election Results
The Labour Party (LP) supports legislation for electronic transmission of election results to enhance transparency. Interim spokesperson Tony Akeni urges civil society and legal professionals to safeguard Nigeria’s electoral process.

The Labour Party (LP) has declared its support for legislation that will provide legal backing for the electronic transmission of election results, describing it as vital to ensuring transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday during a telephone interview with Vanguard, the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tony Akeni, emphasized that embracing technology was the way forward for credible elections.
“In this modern era, the sensible thing to do is to take advantage of technology to improve our electoral process,” Akeni said.
“Having legal backing for election results to be transmitted electronically will be an improvement and will take us away from a repeat of the 2023 tragedy.”
He urged civil society groups, the media, and Nigerians at large to defend their votes, while also calling on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to play a more active role in safeguarding electoral integrity.
“We will also use this opportunity to call on the Nigerian Bar Association to take more than a passing interest in our electoral laws because we can only practice whatever trade or profession when we have a nation,” he noted.
“It is not enough to amend our laws; our legal practitioners must ensure that nation building takes its pride of place in all that they do, especially when handling election matters.”
