Lagos Police Arrest Social Media Influencer ‘Peller’ Over Alleged Attempted Suicide and Reckless Driving
Lagos State Police have arrested social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, known as ‘Peller,’ over alleged attempted suicide and reckless driving that caused a serious road accident, warning influencers against dangerous stunts.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following allegations of attempted suicide and reckless driving that led to a serious road accident in Lagos.
The arrest came after a viral video on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showed Hamzat dangerously driving on a public road while live-streaming the act on social media, putting both his life and those of other road users at risk.
According to the police, Hamzat’s actions constituted a deliberate attempt to take his own life and endangered innocent members of the public.
In a statement on Tuesday, SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State, confirmed on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh that Hamzat is in custody and under investigation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe.
“The suspect will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the statement said, adding that the outcome of the investigation will be made public upon conclusion.
CP Jimoh also issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the public against engaging in or promoting reckless and unlawful acts in the name of content creation.
“The full weight of the law will be applied to anyone found culpable,” the police emphasized, urging road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, maintaining public order, and ensuring safety across Lagos State.
