Lagos Set to Unveil 30-Foot Christmas Tree Crafted from Local Fabrics
Lagos residents will enjoy a 30-foot Christmas tree crafted from Aso-oke, Ankara, Adire and other local fabrics, set to be unveiled on Christmas Eve at the J. Randle Centre.
Residents of Lagos are set to experience a unique blend of technology, culture and entertainment this Christmas with the unveiling of a colourful 30-foot Christmas tree at the heart of the metropolis on Christmas Eve.
The installation is expected to stand out as one of the most distinctive festive displays in the state, as Lagos continues its tradition of decorating major locations with ornamental lights and Christmas trees during the yuletide season.
Adding a cultural twist to this year’s celebrations, culture influencer and founder of Shakara Trybe Fashion enterprise, Miss Ebunoluwa Dosumu, has announced plans to erect a Christmas tree made entirely from locally sourced fabrics.
According to Dosumu, the initiative is designed to celebrate Nigerian heritage, sustainability and unity.
“This Detty December, Lagos will witness a cultural milestone. Our plan to build a Christmas tree made of local fabrics is to celebrate culture, fashion sustainability and indivisible unity and community spirit Nigeria is known for,” she said.
She disclosed that the fabric Christmas tree will be unveiled on December 24 at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Onikan, Lagos Island.
The tree is being constructed using hundreds of donated fabrics, including Aso-oke, Ankara, Adire, George and lace, which were crowd-sourced from families across Nigeria.
Dosumu explained that the project is deeply rooted in community participation, noting that each fabric represents a story, memory and cultural identity.
“Together, these fabrics form a towering masterpiece that reinforces a simple truth: fashion is one of the strongest threads that bind Nigerians together,” she added.
