LASTMA Arrests Togolese Driver After High-Speed Crash Injures Pedestrian on Lagos Island
A Togolese driver was arrested by LASTMA after a high-speed crash at Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, left a pedestrian critically injured. Victim rushed to hospital; police begin investigation.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Monday apprehended a Togolese driver involved in a speed-induced crash that left a pedestrian critically injured at the Adeniji Adele Intersection, inward Ilubirin, Lagos Island.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of a Mazda car, with registration number EPE 749 GS, lost control while driving recklessly and knocked down a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. The victim was left severely injured and bleeding on the spot.
In a bid to evade arrest, the driver attempted to flee the scene, but LASTMA operatives pursued and eventually apprehended him. He was later handed over to officers at the Adeniji Adele Police Division for investigation and possible prosecution.
LASTMA officials immediately alerted emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), who rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, cautioned motorists against reckless driving, noting that overspeeding remains a major cause of accidents in Lagos.
While wishing the victim a quick recovery, Bakare-Oki assured that LASTMA would continue working to ensure safety and orderliness on the state’s roads.
