Arsenal’s remarkable 10-match winning streak across all competitions came to a dramatic halt on Saturday, as Brian Brobbey’s stoppage-time strike earned Sunderland a hard-fought 2–2 draw at the Stadium of Light.

The result saw the Premier League leaders extend their advantage over Manchester City—who face Liverpool on Sunday—to seven points, but the Gunners missed a golden chance to stretch their lead even further.

Arsenal, who had gone eight games without conceding, were stunned in the first half when Dan Ballard smashed home from close range following Nordi Mukiele’s header, ending their long run of defensive resilience since September 28.

The newly-promoted Black Cats, unbeaten at home this season, looked set for another famous win, but Arsenal roared back after the break. Bukayo Saka levelled the score with a precise right-footed finish after Declan Rice dispossessed Enzo Le Fée to start the move.

Moments later, Martin Zubimendi rattled the bar before Leandro Trossard completed the comeback in the 74th minute, curling a thunderous strike into the top corner following Riccardo Calafiori’s clever run.

However, Arsenal failed to hold on. In added time, Brobbey muscled past Gabriel Magalhães to hook home Ballard’s flick-on, rescuing a dramatic point for Sunderland and maintaining their unbeaten home record.

“It was a physical game,” said Granit Xhaka, the former Arsenal captain who now features for Sunderland. “We wanted to show we can compete with anyone—and we did.”

Despite the setback, Mikel Arteta’s men remain top of the table, though rivals City and Liverpool will take encouragement from the Gunners’ dropped points ahead of their Etihad showdown.

For Sunderland, the result moves them level on points with Liverpool and Tottenham in fifth—a remarkable position for a side playing their first Premier League season in eight years.
