Chief Whip of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Peter Ibida has advised university students to acquire production skills while waiting for resumption of studies.

Ibida who lamented the six month closure of universities as a result of the industrial action by Academic Staff Union of Universities, said however that the bad situation could be ameliorated by students finding ways to be useful to themselves.

He counselled the students to explore training opportunities in critical areas such as ICT; dress design and tailoring; catering;  food processing; shoe – making; fish farming and a host of other ventures.

Ibida, a sponsor of several categories of scholarship in Njikoka II constituency, noted that given the circumstances of the period, many entrepreneurs would be ready to take in serious student – trainees at little or no cost.

The lawmaker stated that being busy in this way will take away the restlessness and anxiety that go with loitering around at home. 

He further noted that the economic value of skills acquisition could be harvested during holidays and other free periods.
