Liverpool Held to Goalless Draw by Leeds as Key Stars Miss

Liverpool struggled to find the cutting edge in a 0-0 draw against a depleted Leeds United at Anfield, missing an opportunity to strengthen their position in the Premier League top four.

Arne Slot’s side remain nine games unbeaten, but were frustrated by Leeds’ organised defence, allowing the visitors to move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Leeds came closest to victory late in the game when Dominic Calvert-Lewin poked the ball past Alisson Becker, only to be ruled offside.

The draw leaves Liverpool three points ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for next season’s Champions League spots.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke rested in-form striker Calvert-Lewin along with three other players, with an eye on their upcoming clash against Manchester United. Liverpool were missing Mohamed Salah, away at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Alexander Isak, sidelined by injury. The absence of their top scorers was evident as the Reds rarely threatened the goal.

Liverpool’s best chance fell to Hugo Ekitike, who completely miscontrolled a header from Jeremie Frimpong’s cross in the first half.

Leeds’ six-game unbeaten streak includes strong performances against top teams, with Farke’s defensive setup successfully frustrating Liverpool. Calvert-Lewin, who had scored in his previous six games, was denied a goal at Anfield due to a marginal offside decision.
