Liverpool vs Man United: Reds Battle to Regain Form as Postecoglou Fights for First Win at Forest

Liverpool seek redemption against Man United after three losses, while Postecoglou faces pressure to secure his first win with Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool will be desperate to reignite their title charge when they host fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield this weekend, while Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou faces growing pressure to secure his first Premier League victory.

The defending champions have dominated United in recent years, losing just once in their last 14 league encounters. However, Arne Slot’s men have stumbled in recent weeks, suffering three consecutive defeats — against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, and Galatasaray — that have allowed Arsenal to reclaim top spot.

Liverpool banking on Anfield advantage

Liverpool began the season with five straight league wins, fuelling early hopes of a record 21st English top-flight title — one clear of Manchester United’s tally. But their recent slump has exposed defensive frailties and inconsistency in attack.

The club’s social media team couldn’t resist a jab at their rivals this week, reminding fans of the 7–0 thrashing United suffered at Anfield in March 2023. Mohamed Salah, who netted twice in that game, has scored in 10 of the last 11 meetings between the sides but will be looking to rediscover his best form after a quiet spell.

New signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have yet to find their rhythm, while Liverpool’s back line remains vulnerable. Still, United — now led by Ruben Amorim — have not won at Anfield since 2016, though they managed draws in their last two visits.

Sitting mid-table, Amorim’s team may not strike fear into Liverpool, but they are capable of exploiting lapses in the hosts’ defence.

Postecoglou under pressure at Forest

At Nottingham Forest, Ange Postecoglou’s future remains uncertain after a winless seven-game start to the season. Forest, who finished seventh last term under Nuno Espirito Santo, are now hovering just above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off against Chelsea.

The Australian manager, who endured a troubled campaign at Tottenham before being sacked despite winning the Europa League, insists he is unfazed by the mounting pressure.

“I’ve fought for things my whole life, so it’s just another fight that I love to be in the middle of,” said Postecoglou, 60, after Forest’s 2–0 defeat to Newcastle on October 5.

Reports suggest former Everton and Burnley boss Sean Dyche is being considered as a potential replacement if results don’t improve soon.

Semenyo shines for Bournemouth

Elsewhere, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo continues to dazzle, emerging as one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season. The Ghanaian winger has scored six goals and provided three assists, directly contributing to nearly 82 percent of Bournemouth’s league goals — the highest ratio of any player in the division.

“He is incredible,” teammate Justin Kluivert said. “He shows it every game now. He is just world-class.”

Despite selling nearly £200 million worth of players in the summer, Andoni Iraola’s side sit fourth in the table and will look to continue their fine form against Crystal Palace, who are eager to bounce back after their 19-match unbeaten run was snapped.
