Mbah Wins Praise from NASS Works Committee, Pushes for Faster Federal Road Projects in Enugu
The Joint National Assembly Committee on Works has praised Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership in Enugu, citing contractors’ safety and progress on road projects, while Mbah urged faster work on key expressways and more federal budget support.

The Joint National Assembly Committee on Works, made up of both the Senate and House of Representatives, has lauded the progress in Enugu State under Governor Peter Mbah, describing his leadership as impactful and highly rated both locally and nationally.
The lawmakers, who were in Enugu for an oversight visit to federal road projects, said contractors operating in the state had expressed confidence and safety under the governor’s administration.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, who led the delegation, conveyed the commendations during a courtesy visit to Governor Mbah at Government House, Enugu.
“While inspecting these projects, contractors kept telling us—without being asked—that the governor has been very supportive. Security-wise, they feel safe and at home, and they said you have approved their right of passage,” Alabi said.
“We know that if a governor wants to frustrate a federal project in his state, he can. But as a leader who cares for his people, you are doing the opposite by ensuring smooth progress. Everywhere this Committee goes, we will continue to sing your praise—on the floor of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and beyond.”
Alabi further noted: “We also did a little sampling at the hotel and other places. I’m happy to report that your approval rating is high. Enugu is moving higher and looking better. In just two years as governor, you have moved the state forward, and we hope you continue to keep the people’s interests at heart.”
He assured that the committee would hold federal road contractors accountable to deliver quality work.
In his response, Governor Mbah pressed for faster execution of ongoing federal road projects and asked for greater allocation to Enugu in the 2026 budget.
“For us, we understand the value of roads. You cannot talk about exponential economic growth without road infrastructure because roads connect markets, people, and industries, while also allowing citizens to live in dignity,” the governor said.
He reiterated his administration’s target of paving all roads in Enugu as part of his ambition to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in the next six years.
“Without sounding ungrateful, we commend the federal government for the work done so far, but we ask that contractors increase their pace. For example, the Makurdi–Enugu Expressway and Onitsha–Enugu Express Road are too slow. We will continue to provide support—resolving right-of-way and compensation issues—so that contractors have no excuse to delay,” he added.
Mbah assured the lawmakers that his administration remained committed to partnering with the federal government to accelerate infrastructure development across Enugu State.
