Mbah’s Defection to APC Best for Enugu’s Future — Prince Agu
APC chieftain Prince Matthew Agu hails Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the ruling party, calling it a bold, strategic move for Enugu’s development.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Prince Matthew Agu, has hailed Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the ruling party, describing it as a bold and strategic decision made in the best interest of the state.
Agu, a former deputy governorship candidate under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) — one of the legacy parties that merged to form the APC — urged residents of Enugu to rally behind the governor, saying his move would bring greater political and economic benefits to the state.
“I commend the governor for the bold step to join the APC. It is the best decision given the circumstances,” Agu said. “His address to the people of Enugu was far-reaching and enlightening, helping many who initially misunderstood his direction to now appreciate his vision.”
Describing Governor Mbah as a leader guided by integrity, fairness, and respect for the rule of law, Agu recalled an incident in which the governor stood firm in upholding a court judgment relating to a chieftaincy dispute in Ekwenu community, Udenu Local Government Area, despite pressure from political interests.
“My personal experience with him in Udenu convinced me of his integrity and respect for due process,” he said. “He faced enormous pressure to undermine a court order in Ekwenu community but refused to bow to those who see leadership as a tool of oppression.”
Agu pledged his total loyalty and support for the governor, promising to mobilize his political structures across Enugu in his favor.
“I assure the governor that with his entry into the APC, he has my total support and that of my political structures,” he said. “He can count on my influence in Obollo, Nsukka, and across Enugu State. From now on, he has my unalloyed loyalty and commitment.”
Governor Mbah formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC earlier this week, a move that has continued to generate reactions within the state’s political landscape.
