Mbappe Matches Ronaldo’s Real Madrid Champions League Feat With Double
Kylian Mbappe scored twice in Real Madrid’s 6–1 win over Monaco, reaching 10 Champions League goals this season and joining Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul, and Benzema in an elite Real Madrid scoring record.
Kylian Mbappe made history for Real Madrid on Tuesday night, becoming just the fourth player at the club to score 10 goals in a single Champions League campaign after netting twice in a dominant 6–1 win over his former side, Monaco.
The French star reached the landmark in only his sixth appearance of the season. He opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a composed strike from the edge of the area, before adding his second midway through the first half with a close-range finish following a Vinicius Junior assist.
With the brace, Mbappe joined an elite list of Real Madrid greats that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul and Karim Benzema. Ronaldo remains the most prolific, having achieved the feat seven times during his time at the club.
While Mbappe had previously fallen short of double figures in the competition — scoring eight goals each in the 2020/21 and 2023/24 seasons with Paris Saint-Germain — this marks his first Champions League campaign to reach 10 goals. His total tally now stands at 66 goals, making him the sixth-highest scorer in Champions League history.
He has also surpassed Real Madrid icons Gareth Bale, Luis Figo and Fernando Morientes in European goals for the club, scoring 18 times in just 20 appearances. Only Alfredo Di Stéfano recorded more goals in his first 20 matches for Madrid, while across Europe, only Ruud van Nistelrooy has managed more in his first 20 Champions League games for a single club.
The emphatic victory helped Real Madrid bounce back from recent European setbacks, including a December loss to Manchester City. Further goals from Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and others ensured a comfortable night for Los Blancos, who climbed to second place in the league-phase standings.
Under new coach Alvaro Arbeloa, the 15-time champions appear to have regained momentum as they chase a top-eight finish in the competition.
