Millions Set to March in Nationwide ‘No Kings’ Protests Against Trump Policies
Millions to join “No Kings” protests across the U.S. Saturday, rejecting Trump’s policies and warning against threats to democracy.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Millions of Americans are expected to take to the streets across the United States on Saturday in a wave of “No Kings” protests denouncing President Donald Trump’s policies and what organizers describe as his administration’s “authoritarian tendencies.”
From New York to San Francisco, more than 2,600 demonstrations have been planned as part of the nationwide movement that unites roughly 300 organizations, according to organizers.
The “No Kings” campaign last mobilized on June 14, Trump’s birthday, drawing massive crowds to protest his military parade in Washington — marking the largest show of dissent since the Republican billionaire returned to the White House for his second term in January.
‘We Are a Country of Laws’
Deirdre Schifeling, chief political and advocacy officer for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), said protesters aimed to reaffirm democratic values and equality before the law.
“We are a country of equals. We are a country of laws that apply to everyone, of due process and of democracy. We will not be silenced,” she said.
‘We Will Not Be Intimidated’
Leah Greenberg, co-founder of the Indivisible Project, accused the Trump administration of following “a classic authoritarian playbook,” citing its deployment of the National Guard, crackdown on undocumented migrants, and prosecution of political opponents.
“Threaten, smear and lie, scare people into submission. But we will not be intimidated. We will not be cowed,” Greenberg declared.
Defending Democracy
Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, said it was an “obligation” to stand up for democratic ideals.
“We are fighting for the people in America — to make sure this is a country where we see democracy going forward, not backward,” she said.
Protests Stretch Beyond U.S. Borders
Rallies are planned in major U.S. cities including Washington, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, and New Orleans, with solidarity events also scheduled in Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa.
Organizers say the demonstrations aim to send a unified message: “No to authoritarianism, yes to democracy.”
