NANS Hails Appointment of Prof. Amupitan as INEC Chairman

NANS applauds President Tinubu’s appointment of Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as INEC Chairman, pledging student support for credible, transparent, and youth-inclusive elections in Nigeria.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has congratulated Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) on his appointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, the association described the appointment as “well deserved”, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting such a crucial national responsibility to a “distinguished academic, erudite legal luminary, and patriotic Nigerian.”

“Professor Amupitan’s wealth of experience in legal scholarship and public service is a testament to his competence and readiness for the task ahead,” the statement read.

NANS emphasized that INEC plays a critical role in safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic integrity, adding that the appointment of a seasoned professional like Prof. Amupitan offers “renewed hope for credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.”

The student body also pledged its full support to the new INEC leadership, assuring of its readiness to work with the Commission to promote youth participation, electoral transparency, and good governance.

“We reaffirm our commitment to engaging constructively with the Commission to advocate for electoral reforms that promote youth participation, transparency, and good governance,” NANS said.

Expressing optimism, NANS noted that under Prof. Amupitan’s leadership, INEC would experience “a new era of integrity, innovation, and institutional strength”, ensuring elections that genuinely reflect the will of Nigerians.

The association also expressed its willingness to partner with INEC on voter education, civic engagement, and other democratic initiatives aimed at empowering young Nigerians and strengthening democratic institutions.

“We once again congratulate Professor Amupitan (SAN) on his appointment and wish him success in this important national assignment,” the statement concluded.
