Napoli See Off AC Milan to Reach Italian Super Cup Final
Napoli defeated AC Milan 2–0 in the Italian Super Cup semi-final in Riyadh, with goals from David Neres and Rasmus Højlund to book a place in the final.
Napoli secured a 2–0 victory over AC Milan in Thursday’s Italian Super Cup semi-final played in Riyadh.
David Neres put the Serie A champions ahead just before halftime, while Rasmus Højlund sealed the result with a sharp low strike shortly after the hour at the King Saud University Stadium, one of the proposed venues for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Napoli will now face the winner of Friday’s second semi-final between Bologna and Inter Milan in Monday’s final.
“We put in a big performance, both in commitment and intent. It’s an important win for the team,” Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo said.
Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri admitted his side’s defensive lapses, saying: “Once again we’ve conceded two goals far too easily.”
Napoli are chasing their third Italian Super Cup title and their first since 2014.
The victory in Saudi Arabia offered a swift boost after Napoli’s 1–0 Serie A defeat to Udinese last weekend, a result that left them third in the league, two points behind Inter and one behind Milan.
The current tournament is the 38th edition of the Italian Super Cup, which features the Serie A and Coppa Italia winners as well as the runners-up in both competitions, and is contracted to be staged in Saudi Arabia until 2029.
