The first blackout of 2025 has occurred as the National Grid suffered a major collapse today, Saturday, January 11.

It was the first grid collapse in the year, but the 13th in 13 months.

According to the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the collapse occurred at 1:56pm.

The portal then followed with an update: “Restoration has begun. Currently generating 302MW as of 02:40 pm.”

“Partial collapse: This is where some parts of the country still have light even with the collapse experienced.

“Total collapse: This is when every part of the country is experiencing the blackout.

“On today’s development, the grid collapsed around 01:56 pm and we reported 36 minutes later.

“That your light went off 10 minutes after our report does not make it false. On our last check, generation was a little above 1000MW out of the possible 4500/4800MW.”
