NDLEA arrests man with drugs in Kano Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, for trafficking cocaine concealed in his private parts and stomach.

According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Ejiofor, who runs boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was intercepted upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via an Ethiopian Airlines flight (ET 941) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, following credible intelligence.

“He was taken for a body scan, which confirmed he ingested illicit drugs and had some concealed in his private part.
A total of 58 wraps of cocaine were immediately recovered from his pants after which he was placed under excretion observation. He later egested 69 additional pellets in seven excretions, bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms,” Babafemi said.

The NDLEA also reported several other interceptions of drug consignments headed to various destinations, including the United Kingdom, Turkey, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates, during operations in Lagos.

They included 1.74 kg of methamphetamine hidden in glass ceramics, 114 grams of pentazocine injections, 168 grams of tramadol injections, and 48 grams of tramadol capsules concealed in Vitamin C containers,” the agency revealed.

Other attempted exports were also thwarted, including 2.6 kg of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol concealed in black soap tablets bound for Turkey, 169 grams of cocaine hidden in ladies’ handbags heading to Australia, and 568 grams of Loud (a potent cannabis strain) disguised in herbal containers destined for the UAE.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 27,510 pills of Rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks en route to South Africa. A freight agent and a cab driver were initially arrested, leading to the capture of the suspected mastermind, Samuel Omoruyi (alias Yellow), 46, during a follow-up operation in Oyingbo Market on October 2.

The same day, another suspect, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, an Italy-based businessman, was arrested while attempting to export 3,700 tramadol pills and 2,600 tapentadol tablets hidden in food items. He reportedly admitted he was trafficking the drugs for someone else for a fee of €945.
