The NDLEA has destroyed nearly 25,000kg of skunk in Edo and Osun forests, arrested multiple suspects, and intercepted cannabis shipments, as part of its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse campaign.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed a combined 24,897kg of skunk in raids carried out across Edo and Osun forests.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said operatives also recovered 223.5kg of processed cannabis and seeds from four farms in Edo State.
According to him, 10,897.35kg of skunk cultivated on four farms covering 4.36 hectares at Ugbodo forest, Ovia North East LGA, was destroyed on Friday, October 3. Two suspects, Michael Ayang (40) and Bernard New Year, popularly known as “Don” (47), were arrested.
Earlier, on October 1, operatives intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle loaded with 22 bags of skunk weighing 244.5kg at Igbanke, Orhionwon LGA. A suspect identified as Ineh Excellent Obindi (28) was arrested.
In Osun State, Babafemi confirmed that three suspects—Chuimieze Shedrack (28), Sunday John (25), and Solomon Okopko (27)—were apprehended on October 2 at the Owena/Ijesha forest reserve, where 14,000kg of skunk was destroyed on a 5.6-hectare cannabis farm. Officers also seized 142kg of processed skunk.
NDLEA operatives also intercepted other consignments. A patrol along the Okene/Lokoja highway uncovered a parcel from Lagos to Abuja containing 3.27kg of “Loud” and a sachet of Colorado. A follow-up operation in Gwagwalada park led to the arrest of Tobi Odubote (34), the suspected owner. Another suspect, Ismail Abdurrahim (32), was arrested with 25.5kg of skunk along the Abaji-Abuja Expressway on October 2.
Babafemi added that NDLEA formations nationwide intensified their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns during the week, reaching schools, markets, religious centres, and communities.
Some of the initiatives included lectures at Government Day Secondary School, Hammawa Toungo (Adamawa), Government Day Secondary School, Kankara (Katsina), Day Secondary School, Unguwan Nasarawa, Kontogora (Niger State), and traders at Ladega Market in Ikorodu, Lagos.
In Imo State, the command paid an advocacy visit to Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma, wife of the state governor, at the Government House, Owerri.
