Ndume urges Military to sustain offensive against Boko Haram in Sambisa, Lake Chad, and Mandara Mountains
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume calls on Nigerian military to maintain operations against Boko Haram/ISWAP in Sambisa, Mandara Mountains, Lake Chad, and Timbuktu Triangle. He praises troops’ efforts, urges public cooperation, and highlights progress in resettling displaced persons.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has called on the military to maintain ongoing operations in the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains along the Cameroon border, the Timbuktu Triangle, and the Lake Chad region to curb Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.
Ndume noted that he had long advocated for proactive military strategies, urging troops to take the fight directly to insurgents rather than reacting to attacks—a strategy he says is now being implemented successfully.
The senator commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, other Service Chiefs, and the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai for their dedication to these new approaches, which reflect Nigerians’ concerns.
He highlighted the recent massive clearance of Boko Haram enclaves that began in January, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and commanders, and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
In a statement made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Sunday, Ndume praised the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Police, Civilian Joint Task Force, Hunters, and other security agencies for their sacrifices in ending over 16 years of killings and destruction in Borno State and the North East.
He also acknowledged the support of Governor Babagana Zulum and other northeastern governors from Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Taraba states for contributing to the relative peace in the region.
The former Senate Committee on Army chairman noted that collaboration between the military, government, and resilient civilians has enabled the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and resettlement of millions of displaced persons.
Ndume said, “For many years ago, I was one of the strong advocates, calling upon the Military to take the war to the doorsteps of insurgents, and to remain proactive rather than reactive. I am happy because this is what is manifested now against terrorists. I humbly call on the military authorities to sustain the ongoing operations in the Sambisa Forests, Mandara Mountains bordering the Cameroun Republic, the Timbuktu Triangle and shores of the Lake Chad region to stem the tide of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.”
He further urged residents to continue providing credible information on terrorist movements to security agencies, stressing that fighting insecurity should be a collective effort, not the responsibility of government or security forces alone.
Ndume prayed for eternal rest for fallen heroes and a speedy recovery for those injured during the renewed onslaught, commending their commitment to defending the nation.
