Ndume Warns of Renewed Boko Haram Attacks in Borno, Calls for Urgent Military Action
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has raised alarm over renewed Boko Haram attacks in Chibok and Askira-Uba, which left four farmers dead and a church burned, urging urgent troop deployment to protect affected communities.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Southern Borno, has expressed grave concern over a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks across several communities in his constituency, which have resulted in the death of four farmers and the destruction of churches and key infrastructure.
In a statement issued to journalists on Thursday, Ndume condemned the recent wave of violence, citing coordinated assaults in Kwam village near Dille in Askira-Uba Local Government Area, the burning of a church and buildings in Pemi, and the latest Boko Haram incursion into Shikarkir in Chibok Local Government Area.
“I am very much perturbed over the renewed attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in parts of my constituency in the last week,” Ndume said. “These attacks have led to the killing of four farmers while harvesting their crops in Kwam village. Just last week, a church and other infrastructures in Pemi were set ablaze, and yesterday, there were reports of Boko Haram invasion in Shikarkir community of Chibok. The situation is worrisome, as the lack of adequate security presence has allowed these attacks to occur without confrontation.”
The senator attributed the renewed violence to insufficient security surveillance in remote parts of Southern Borno, stressing that many communities remain exposed to terrorist incursions.
Ndume commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his swift intervention, including directing the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and relevant stakeholders to deliver relief materials to affected areas.
He also acknowledged the commitment of Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, and his troops for their continued efforts in combating terrorism across the North East.
Calling for urgent reinforcement, Ndume appealed to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Waidi Shaibu, to deploy additional troops to safeguard lives and property in vulnerable communities.
“I commiserate with the people in the affected areas, especially the victims and their families, and I appeal for immediate military intervention to protect those under perpetual Boko Haram attacks in the state,” Ndume said.
