Neymar Slams Ballon d’Or Rankings, Calls Raphinha’s 5th Place Finish “A Joke”
Neymar has criticised France Football after Barcelona star Raphinha was ranked 5th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or despite 64 goal contributions and a treble-winning season.
Brazilian forward Neymar has openly criticised France Football after his compatriot, Raphinha, was ranked fifth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings.
Raphinha, who had been widely tipped as a strong contender following a stellar campaign, finished behind Ousmane Dembele—who claimed the award—along with Lamine Yamal, Vitinha, and Mohamed Salah.
Reacting to the outcome, Neymar expressed his displeasure in blunt terms: “Raphinha in 5th is too much of a joke.”
The Barcelona winger delivered one of the best seasons of his career in 2024/25, scoring 38 goals and providing 26 assists in all competitions—contributing directly to 64 goals for club and country.
His explosive form was instrumental in Barcelona’s triumphs in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. On an individual level, Raphinha’s brilliance was recognised when he was crowned La Liga Player of the Season 2024/25, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s most decisive attackers.
