NFF Clarifies Super Eagles’ Morocco Hotel Choice After Viral Video Sparks Reactions
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has defended the Super Eagles’ choice of accommodation in Morocco after a viral video showing the team’s hotel surroundings sparked public concern.
Football journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, citing the team’s media officer, explained that the Super Eagles are lodged at Rive Hotel in Rabat — not the old building seen in the trending footage.
“The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” the official clarified.
He added that Rive Hotel was specifically selected because of its proximity to both the team’s training ground and match venue in Rabat.
The clarification came shortly after midfielder Alex Iwobi posted videos highlighting what appeared to be substandard conditions around the team’s hotel, raising concerns about the players’ welfare and readiness ahead of their crucial playoff fixture.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the playoff semi-final on Thursday after finishing second behind South Africa in Group C. The winner will advance to play either DR Congo or Cameroon in the final stage.
The ultimate victor will earn a place in the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026, where a ticket to the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be up for grabs.
