Ngige’s Convoy Attacked in Anambra, One Killed, Others Injured

Bandits attacked the convoy of ex-Anambra Governor Chris Ngige on the Nkpor–Nnobi Road, killing a police officer and injuring others. Ngige was not in the convoy.

A convoy belonging to former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, came under attack on Wednesday along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.

According to sources, the attackers—who were dressed in what appeared to be police and military uniforms—opened fire on the pilot vehicle, killing a police officer and taking his rifle and uniform.

A woman who was filming the incident on her phone was also shot and killed.

Another victim, a shop owner who stepped out to see what was happening, was struck by bullets and later taken to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment. The escort leader was also injured and has undergone surgery. The pilot vehicle sustained multiple bullet impacts.

Dr. Ngige was not present in the convoy during the attack.

In a statement, his former press secretary, Mr. Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed the incident:
“I spoke with His Excellency, Dr. Ngige, who confirmed the attack and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure adequate medical care for the injured. He also extended condolences to the family of the woman who was killed while recording the attack.”

The Anambra State Police Command has not yet released an official reaction to the incident.
