Nigeria At 60; Is All Hope Lost? -By Enoch Samson Peri
We must instill national values in ourselves and make sure we love our nation from the heart and put it first before anything else. We must respect the rule of law and allow the constitution take preeminence over our every action. We must love, respect and tolerate each other and show no difference. We must put national interest first before personal interest.
After 60 years of Independence, Nigeria seem to have achieved so little over the years.
Corruption is at it’s peak, it doesn’t only go unpunished but it is celebrated too! Citizens put ethnicity and religion first before national interest.
Leaders are not responsible, accountable and answerable to the people, but to a few powerful people. On daily basis, lives are lost and properties destroyed but the government keeps mute as if nothing is wrong. Good road, hospitals, Education, Electricity and portable water have lost their place on the government’s scale of preference. While some persons have declared themselves above the law of the land, impunity and lawlessness have become the order of the day, Justice is sold to the highest bidder.
Practically, the government has not given Nigerians a reason to put their hope and confidence in their nation, as even their smallest expectations are cut short!
The big question is ‘ IS ALL HOPE LOST?’ No! There is still a chance for Nigeria to come out of the deep mess it has gone into! We must as a nation go back and trace the steps we wrongly took with the view of correcting them. We must instill national values in ourselves and make sure we love our nation from the heart and put it first before anything else. We must respect the rule of law and allow the constitution take preeminence over our every action. We must love, respect and tolerate each other and show no difference. We must put national interest first before personal interest.
Nigeria is a great nation with potentials that if maximized, will place the nation high. The fight to salvage Nigeria and make it great is a collective one, we as Nigerians must put all hands on deck to make the Nigeria we wish to see!
