ABUJA, 25 April 2019 — Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party Nigeria has said Nigeria needs leaders who have one foot in the present and another in the future, who whilst dealing with the present have an eye on the future in order to successfully navigate the country there, as we cannot fight the future but can only embrace it to our advantage. She further said the what the country needs are leaders with a deep understanding, who are committed, and remain consistent.

The Party responded to comments by deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu who said, ‘in economic sense, we are an oil producing country. So, we should do everything possible to frustrate the sale of electric cars in Nigeria to enable us to sell our oil.’ This was his submission against a bill to stop the sale and use of vehicles run on fossil fuels in Nigeria and to adopt the full usage of electric cars by 2035 for the advantages they present.

The Party is of the view that whereas a law may not be necessary to stop the use of hydrocarbons in powering vehicles in the country, it is important to initiate policies and steps to embrace a near future where vehicles will no longer run on fossil fuels.

The Party expressed that the Luddite thinking of fighting an inevitable outcome of an end to the crude oil era can only be fruitless and counterproductive in the end.

At an event on 10 December 2016, Senator Ike Ekweremadu had urged the country that the era oil was over, that it needs to be bold to embrace the future. ANRP wondered why the recent volte face?
