In a major milestone in the fight against transnational organized crime, the Nigeria Police Force has repatriated Mr. Dai Qisheng, a high-profile Chinese fugitive and gang leader, to the People’s Republic of China.
The operation was coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, in close collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria. It marks a significant success in international law enforcement cooperation.
Mr. Dai, who had been on the run since 2024, was wanted by Chinese authorities for leading violent organized crime operations in Guizhou Province. The Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County had issued a warrant for his arrest, prompting a global manhunt.
INTERPOL operatives tracked and arrested Dai in Abuja on August 8, 2025. He was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the operation, calling it a testament to Nigeria’s role in promoting global justice.
“This operation sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives,” said the IGP, emphasizing the critical role of intelligence-sharing, joint operations, and international alliances in addressing the growing threat of cross-border crime.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, also commended the success, stating that it demonstrates Nigeria’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and strengthen its contributions to global security.
With this successful extradition, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its position as a dependable international partner in the global crackdown on organized criminal networks.
