Nigeria Police to Celebrate 70 Years of Women in Policing December 3–4
The Nigeria Police Force will mark 70 years of women in policing on December 3–4, celebrating decades of courage, professionalism, and leadership by female officers since 1955.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced December 3 and 4, 2025, as dates to commemorate 70 years of women in policing across the country.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, noting that the celebration marks “seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedication to service” since the first group of policewomen joined the force in 1955.
Hundeyin said the event will highlight the vital role women have played in strengthening law enforcement and building public trust nationwide.
He added that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, will join serving and retired female officers to honour the landmark anniversary.
The IGP, according to Hundeyin, praised women in the force for their “invaluable contributions to operational effectiveness and the public image of the Nigeria Police.”
“The dedication and compassion of women in policing have continued to be integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria,” Egbetokun said.
“Over the past seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have excelled in various capacities — from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership. They have embodied integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation.”
The statement noted that activities marking the celebration will include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme.
Hundeyin said the event reflects the IGP’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and capacity development for women in policing.
“Through the selfless commitment of women officers, the Nigeria Police has redefined policing with compassion and purpose,” Hundeyin added.
He further expressed appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism have continued to inspire the force and the nation.
