Nigeria, US Review Strategic Partnership on Training and Equipment Support
Nigeria and the United States have reviewed their policing partnership as the US reaffirmed support for the Nigeria Police Force through training, equipment and capacity building.
The United States and Nigeria have reviewed their strategic partnership on policing, training and equipment support, with the US reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Washington, Ms Maggie Nardi, led a US delegation on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters at the weekend.
The delegation included Mr Jacob Wright, Senior Advisor, INL, and Mr Grane Douglas, Acting Director, INL Abuja. During the visit, they held discussions with top police authorities on ongoing areas of cooperation and explored ways to deepen institutional engagement in policing and internal security development.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said Ms Nardi reiterated the US government’s support for the NPF.
“Ms. Nardi reaffirmed the INL’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force through expanded specialised training programmes and the provision of modern operational equipment,” the statement read.
“She emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration in building institutional capacity and enhancing operational effectiveness.”
In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and support of the INL, particularly in the area of tactical capacity development.
He noted the positive impact of INL-supported training programmes on the performance of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), citing the professionalism and discipline demonstrated by its officers during recent operations.
IGP Egbetokun also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening cooperation with the INL and other international partners, while adopting global best practices aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring a safer Nigeria.
