Nigerian Navy Dismisses Officer and Imposes 3-Year Jail Sentence for Affair with Colleague’s Wife
A Nigerian Navy Lieutenant has been dismissed and sentenced to three years in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a colleague’s wife. The punishment follows a Special Court Martial’s ruling, with the Navy upholding the decision.
The Nigerian Navy (NN) has dismissed one of its officers, a Lieutenant, and sentenced him to three years in prison after he was found guilty of engaging in a “scandalous” sexual relationship with the wife of a fellow officer.
The dismissal and prison sentence followed a Special Court Martial (SCM) proceeding, with the outcome confirmed by Naval Headquarters, Abuja. The officer was found guilty of four charges, including having an affair with a colleague’s wife, which violated military regulations.
According to sources, the sentence of three years in prison and dismissal from the Navy, effective from November 23, 2024, was carried out on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT) Parade Ground in Sapele.
The officer was court-martialed on charges that included sexual relations with a service personnel’s wife, scandalous conduct, and deceiving witnesses. These offenses violated various sections of the Armed Forces Act (AFA) and the Criminal Code Act.
The trial proceedings were reviewed and deemed fair and in compliance with legal procedures, with the Navy Board upholding the court’s decision.
