NiMet Issues 3-Day Weather Forecast with Thunderstorms and Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms, heavy rains, and possible flash floods across Nigeria from Oct. 6–8, 2025. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to take precautions.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across different parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina on Monday morning, with Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba expected to see rains later in the day.

“Flash floods are possible in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano States during this period,” the agency warned.

For central states such as Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Nasarawa, NiMet projected morning cloudiness with light to moderate rainfall, noting a high risk of flooding in Plateau. Southern states including Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom are also expected to experience light to moderate rains.

On Tuesday, sunny skies with patchy clouds are forecast in the North, while thunderstorms and rains persist in Adamawa, Taraba, and nearby states. The central and southern regions will continue to experience moderate rainfall.

By Wednesday, northern states are expected to see sunshine with thunderstorms in the morning, while cloudy skies with moderate rains will cover the central region. Southern states like Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River will record morning showers followed by moderate to heavy rains later in the day.

NiMet advised residents in flood-prone areas to prepare emergency responses, avoid driving in heavy rain, secure loose objects, and take precautions against strong winds and low nighttime temperatures. It also urged the public to disconnect electrical appliances during storms and avoid sheltering under tall trees.

Airline operators were reminded to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe flight planning. Residents can access regular updates at www.nimet.gov.ng.
