NIS, IOM Strengthen Partnership to Boost Nigeria’s Border Governance
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have deepened their strategic collaboration to boost border governance, improve migration management, and advance technology-driven security systems across Nigeria.
Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intensified its strategic collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to enhance border management and strengthen institutional capacity for more effective migration governance nationwide.
Speaking during a two-day engagement in Lagos, the Comptroller-General of NIS, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, said the meeting provided an opportunity to assess ongoing cooperation between both organisations and outline a roadmap for deeper, technology-driven border management reforms. She praised IOM for its support in areas such as operational capacity building, institutional reforms and the development of Nigeria’s national border management strategy.
NIS Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General Echefulam Anugwa, also lauded the partnership, describing it as a model example of successful collaboration between government institutions and international organisations.
IOM Nigeria Chief of Mission, Dimanche Sharon, commended NIS for its progressive leadership, noting that the service had become a regional reference point for digital border governance through systems like MIDAS, e-border solutions and improved identity management. He said the engagement would help identify operational gaps, capacity needs and areas for high-impact support in the next phase of their partnership.
The two-day meeting, themed “Strengthening Strategic Collaboration for Effective Migration Management and Border Governance,” features high-level presentations and technical sessions designed to produce actionable recommendations and a joint roadmap for future NIS–IOM collaboration.
The initiative is expected to further position Nigeria as a regional leader in migration management and border governance across West and Central Africa.
