North Central Deserves 2027 Presidency – NCRM Demands Equity, End to Political Marginalization
In a communiqué released after a strategic meeting in Abuja and signed by its chairperson, Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, the group argued that the North Central remains the only geopolitical zone yet to produce a civilian President or Vice President since Nigeria’s independence — a situation it says must be corrected in 2027.

The North Central Renaissance Movement (NCRM) has called on Nigeria’s leading political parties to zone their 2027 presidential tickets to the North Central region, insisting it is time the zone produced the country’s next leader.
“We will no longer accompany other zones as escorts, backbenchers, spectators, or political underdogs to the glorious location called Nigeria. Being the only geopolitical zone that has never produced a civilian President or Vice-President since Independence, the time for North Central to lead the country is now,” the communiqué declared.
Highlighting the zone’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s development, NCRM noted that North Central hosts the Federal Capital Territory, supplies hydroelectric power, and has historically bolstered agricultural production through initiatives like the groundnut pyramids and tin mining.
The group also underscored the region’s ethnic and cultural diversity — home to Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba, Igbo, and several indigenous communities — stating that this diversity uniquely positions it to promote inclusivity, tolerance, and unity in governance.
“Granting the North Central zone the presidency would not only strengthen national cohesion but also signal a commitment to fairness and inclusivity across the federation,” the statement added.
Rejecting what it termed “tokenistic gestures” such as offering the zone party chairmanships or secondary political roles, the movement insisted it would settle for nothing less than the presidency in 2027.
The communiqué also referenced the region’s loyalty during the Nigerian Civil War as a testament to its unwavering commitment to the nation’s unity and progress.
“Our region has paid its dues through sacrifices and contributions to the nation’s growth. It is time for fairness and equity to prevail,” it concluded.
The group called on Nigerians from all regions to support its quest, promising that a North Central presidency would usher in a new era of national cooperation, development, and unity.
