Obi Slams Tinubu, Says Nigeria Becoming a “Disgraced Nation”
Peter Obi criticizes President Tinubu and the APC for prioritizing political conflicts over national security. Obi says Nigeria is becoming a “disgraced nation,” citing kidnappings, killings, and alleged government efforts to destabilize opposition parties.
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of prioritizing political manipulation over national security and good governance.
In a post shared on his verified X handle on Tuesday, Obi said the APC-led administration was more focused on engineering internal crises within opposition parties than addressing the rising insecurity plaguing the country.
Referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks, Obi noted: “A few weeks ago, when President Trump described our country as ‘now disgraced,’ many were outraged. Yet, how can we dispute it when, within a single week, 25 people were kidnapped, and one of our generals, along with other officers, was killed?”
He condemned the latest terror attack in Kwara State and lamented that instead of uniting to confront insecurity, the nation’s political leadership was consumed by “internal wrangling, party squabbles and distractions.”
Obi accused the ruling government of deliberately destabilizing the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and other opposition groups. He contrasted this with an experience under the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, recalling how Yar’Adua once instructed INEC Chairman Prof. Maurice Iwu to ensure stability across all political parties, not just the ruling party.
“What we witness today is the opposite,” Obi said. “The current government seems more intent on weakening parties than strengthening our democracy, seeking to fragment the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and others.”
He stressed that in true democracies, opposition parties are respected, elections reflect the people’s will, and governance is inclusive.
Obi concluded with his familiar message of hope: “A New Nigeria is Possible – PO.”
