Governor Willie Obiano deserves commendation for the great fortunes he has brought to Anambra State in his seven years of pragmatic and purposeful leadership.

Obiano marked his seventh year in office as Governor of Anambra State on March 17, 2021.

His performance in the last seven years has been remarkably outstanding and impressive. Those attributing failure to the governor are doing so for political reasons. They are simply playing politics. They try to discredit the governor because of their political interests.

It is against my principle to score somebody who is still writing an exam. I wait for you to finish. But I’m compelled to score the governor 98% for the wonderful job he has done. My position as the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo (Anambra chapter) stops me from playing partisan politics. But as the President of all Ndigbo in Anambra State, I should encourage a person who is doing well. The governor is doing well. And our fervent prayer as Anambra State holds (governorship) election on the 6th of November this year is for God to give us another person that will not deviate from the good works of Obiano that have brought meaningful growth and development to our dear state.

The governor has concurrently developed all the sectors of the economy in the state leaving no stone unturned.

In the health sector, you can see new machines and equipment. He (Obiano) has improved a lot of things at the General Hospitals and even in some missionary hospitals, and the patients no longer go through pain to get medical attention. Anambra has the highest or the biggest Oxygen manufacturing plant courtesy of the current government, to the extent that some other states and even some countries in Africa now rely on Anambra State for the supply of oxygen. We all know that oxygen is very important in this COVID-19 pandemic.

In terms of sports I can say the governor has also done so well. Very soon, the state will witness the commissioning of the new standard stadium he has built in Awka, the state capital. He has spent a lot of money to transform the sports ministry. The other time Anambra hosted the police games. The governor was the host and a lot of talents were discovered. That is one of the many good things the governor has done in sports.

In agriculture, Anambra remains the highest producer of rice in the federation now. We supply not only to other states around us but to other countries. Anambra State is now the highest producer of cassava in the federation as a result of the support given to the famers every year to cultivate. He has helped the rice farmers with loans and he has been procuring fertilizer for distribution to the farmers.

The governor has made giant strides in the area of infrastructure with numerous legacy projects executed in different parts of the state. He is building the biggest international cargo/passenger airport in Africa in Anambra State. He has given utmost priority to the welfare of Anambra citizens.

We have 179/181 communities that make up Anambra State. There is a programme he initiated which he called ‘Choose Your Project Initiative’. In that ‘Choose Your Projects Initiative’, every year town union presidents, the traditional rulers of all the communities will come to Awka and say the projects they want to embark on and the governor will release N20m to them. And this ‘Choose Your Project Initiative’ has been working well for the development of the communities.

As far as security is concerned, you don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that Anambra remains the safest state in Nigeria today. Due to the enabling environment the governor has provided, you can see investors trooping into Anambra State. A lot of investors and industries are now in Awka and its environs.
