Ohuabunwa Named PDP Factional BoT Chairman as Wike’s Camp Dissolves Wabara-Led Board
A faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dissolved the Wabara-led PDP Board of Trustees, appointing Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman. The group cited loss of credibility and pledged to restore moral order within the party.
The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Friday as the faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, dissolved the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The faction cited “loss of credibility, moral authority, and constitutional alignment” as reasons for the dissolution.
The development followed a meeting held at Wike’s Life Camp residence in Abuja, where a new BoT was inaugurated. At the session, Senator Mao Arukwe Ohuabunwa from Abia State emerged as Chairman, while Hon. Isah Dansidi from the North was named Secretary.
Presiding over the meeting, Factional Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, said the reconstitution was aimed at restoring discipline, order, and moral direction to the party. He accused the dissolved Wabara-led BoT of losing “the moral balance expected of that noble institution,” noting that Wabara’s suspension by the Abia PDP for alleged anti-party activities rendered his leadership “untenable.”
“The Board that was meant to be the moral compass of our party became divided and ineffective. The credibility of that leadership was heavily questioned, and its continued role in national advisory matters became impossible to sustain,” Muhammad said.
He further criticised the tenure of the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, alleging a decline in party morality and disregard for judicial authority.
“When any political party begins to disregard its own constitution and laws, it loses the very soul that holds it together,” he warned.
Muhammad described the recent Federal High Court ruling — which halted the PDP’s planned national convention — as “a wake-up call to return to our roots.” He pledged that the new BoT would act as the “conscience and compass” of the party, chosen for integrity rather than factional loyalty.
“This is not a reward for loyalty; it is a sacred trust. Your voices must be voices of unity, your advice rooted in fairness, and your actions must inspire confidence in our collective future,” he said.
At the meeting, former Anambra State Governor and PDP founding father, Senator Jim Nwobodo, urged reconciliation and unity, calling on the leadership to rebuild the party.
“PDP is a family and a party where every member has a sense of belonging. Let us ensure the PDP remains the beacon of democracy in Nigeria,” he said, commending Wike’s performance as FCT Minister.
Following the meeting, the reconstituted BoT issued a seven-point communiqué, reaffirming its commitment to constitutional order, unity, and lawful conduct ahead of the national convention.
Signed by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Hon. Isah Dansidi, the communiqué declared the PDP as “one indivisible, united and democratic family” and directed all party organs to comply fully with the Federal High Court judgment of October 31, 2025.
The BoT also advised postponing the national convention pending the determination of the appeal, warning that any action taken outside court orders would be null and void.
The communiqué concluded with a pledge that the BoT would remain the moral voice of the PDP, promoting fairness, justice, and unity across all party structures.
“The Board of Trustees pledges to continuously uphold its sacred responsibility as the conscience of the PDP – speaking truth with fairness, guiding with integrity, and ensuring our great party remains a beacon of democracy and hope for the nation,” it stated.
