Omisore: APC Will Contest to Win Osun Governorship in 2026

As part of the consultation tour, Omisore visited various local leaders and stakeholders, beginning with a courtesy visit to Chief Akinwande Ayinde Akinola, the Sawe of Ilesa, at his residence in Ijamo. The visit, according to aides, reinforced mutual dedication to Osun’s development and unity.

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared that the party is not entering next year’s Osun State governorship election just to participate—but to win.

In a statement released by his media office and signed by Jamiu Olawumi, Omisore emphasized that his governorship ambition is grounded in due process and broad-based consensus, as he kicked off grassroots consultations across the state.

“This is not about ambition alone; it is about collective reasoning and strategy. Osun needs common sense now more than ever. We cannot afford to field a candidate who merely participates—we must present a candidate who can win,” Omisore stated.

The former Deputy Governor reaffirmed his commitment to stakeholder engagement, noting that his final decision to run would be shaped by alignment with the party base and leadership across Osun.

Also speaking during the consultation, Hon. Folorunso Oladoyin Bamisayemi, former Osun Commissioner for Education, highlighted Omisore’s key role in stabilizing the APC during his time as National Secretary, including his contribution to the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

“Senator Omisore’s base in Ife is one of the four largest voting blocs in Osun. His consistent financial and strategic support for the APC, including backing reinstated local government officials, is well-recognized,” Bamisayemi added.

In support of Omisore’s efforts, Hon. Olanrewaju Balogun, Chairman of Ilesa East Local Government, described the governorship project as a unity agenda, stating that Omisore’s approach signals “the beginning of a rescue mission for Osun State.”

Omisore is expected to continue his state-wide consultation in the coming weeks, engaging party members and traditional leaders as part of efforts to secure the APC ticket and mount a formidable campaign.
