Confirmation letter is important because it serves as a formal, written record of the agreed-upon terms of employment, ensuring clarity and preventing misunderstandings between employer and employee regarding salary, start date, benefits, and responsibilities. It demonstrates professionalism, provides a basis for future reference, and can be crucial for onboarding and potential enforcement of agreed terms.

Amotekun 1
Drama rocks in Ondo House of Assembly as Zone 5 Commander, Alhaji Akewusola and Zone 6 Commander, Mr. Owa Boriaye lead Ondo State Amotekun Corps coordinators and others area commanders that they are against collection of appointment letter and confirmation letter. This really shows that some of them are under duress and fear of losing their jobs.
Amotekun Officers’ Plight in Ondo and Oyo States
Amotekun officers in Ondo and Oyo have worked “continuously and faithfully” since 2020, protecting lives and property, yet remain unprotected themselves. “These officers, who daily confront kidnappers, armed robbers, and bandits, cannot continue to be treated as casual workers. It is an insult to their sacrifice and a betrayal of their trust in the state.
They have worked for 5 years without appointment letter and confirmation letter, no pension system and gratitude benefits, there is no career progression, no standard operational procedures, no code of conduct and ethics, no promotion for the past 5 years for Oyo Amotekun and favoritism and nepotism rocks in Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
It’s so disheartening that the leadership of Ondo State Amotekun Corps at all local government and area command betrayed their fellow officers because of favoritism ranks and cash from their state commander just to protect him; indeed Fela is right when he says suffering and smiling.
It’s so painful that out of the 18 local government Amotekun coordinators, only two of them are BSc holders while other 16 coordinators are primary school holders and secondary holders in Ondo State. I keep wondering why the state Commandant Chief Adetunji Adeleye places illiterate over the literate and well-educated officers just because of his selfish interest. Same as Col Olayinka Olayanju Oyo State Amotekun Commandant.
Appointment Letter and Its Importance to Amotekun Corps
Since 85 percent of Amotekun in Ondo and Oyo State are illiterate, I would like to give them the definition of appointment letter and benefits of the letter to the Amotekun Corps and their Commandants.
An appointment letter is a vital, formal document that acts as the legal contract of employment, outlining the terms of the job, salary, benefits, and expectations for both the employer and the employee. It provides clarity, serves as proof of employment, protects both parties by defining their rights and responsibilities, and helps the employee make an informed decision about accepting the job.
Benefits/Importance of Appointment Letter to Oyo State Amotekun and Ondo State Amotekun
1. Establishes a Formal Contract: The appointment letter serves as the official, written contract of employment, detailing the relationship between the employer and the employee (Amotekun and State).
2. Defines Terms of Employment: It clearly states crucial details like the job position, the effective date of employment, working hours, location of work, and salary.
3. Outlines Salary and Benefits: Employees receive clear information about their salary, benefits, and other compensation, allowing them to make an informed decision about the job offer.
4. Clarifies Job Description and Responsibilities: The letter includes a detailed job description, ensuring the employee understands their duties, responsibilities, and expectations.
5. Provides Proof of Employment: It serves as official proof of employment for the employee, which can be necessary for various purposes, such as applying for a mortgage or other credit.
6. Promotes a Smooth Hiring Process: It provides a smooth and professional transition for new employees by giving them all the necessary information and a clear onboarding process.
7. Offers Legal Protection: By clearly defining the terms, it protects both the employer and the employee from potential disputes, serving as a reference point if any issues arise regarding the terms of employment.
8. Sets Expectations: It outlines the probation period (if any) and the expectations for performance, which are crucial for both new hires and the employer.
Call for Reform in Amotekun Administration
In conclusion, base on information gathered within the Oyo State Amotekun/Ondo operatives, all the Oyo State/Ondo Amotekun operatives are thirsting for better administration in the Agency, but they dare not talk, for the fear of unlawful and disgraceful dismissal. Therefore, the Oyo State governor Engineer Seyi Makinde/Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Oyo State House of Assembly/Ondo State house of Assembly, the Oyo State head of civil service commission, the Oyo State Attorney general, Oyo State ministry of establishment and Oyo State Amotekun board of governance (chairman and members) to please use your constitutional power and position to constitute and compulsory professional practice in the administration of Oyo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps which should be in line with the Agency law 2020. Or impose the extant regulations of the Oyo State civil service commission on the administration of Oyo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps, as stated in section 39 (3) of the Oyo State Security Network Agency law 2020.
