Open Letter to His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma C. Soludo (Executive Governor-elect, Anambra state).

Topic: Proposal for the Creation of Anambra State Agency for Attitudinal Reorientation (ANSAAR).

Appreciation:

Firstly, I’d like to warmly appreciate you for availing yourself for political leadership within the political space of Anambra state and by extension the federal republic of Nigeria by taking responsibility to be the change that you wanted to see. I consider it a great service that you have undertaken not just to contribute to the rich political history of our State and Nigeria but also to show cause why the educated population must begin to differentiate self from the usual narrative. Interestingly, you have initiated the idea of a Talent databank where anyone with requisite capability and interest to contribute to the overall progress of our dear State could easily indicate their interest. This is very commendable.

My Proposal:

Now, as the headlines of this letter does indicate sir, and to show my willingness to work with you in the area of my strength; I wish to bring to your attention the reality of how the mindset of indiscipline and lawlessness in our people (most especially the youths who have turned to lawlessness in the name of embracing the IPOB-Nnamdi Kanu movement) is adversely affecting the economy of our dear State. There is no doubt that the prevailing mentality of any people is the biggest driver of any economy in the world today. The attitude of citizens towards any cause can spur growth or trigger retrogression. A good example is the Boko Haram mindset in the north of Nigeria which has caused much poverty there.

The mindset of fear occasioned by the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia has turned the economies of both Ukraine and Russia downhill. This is not to mention the ripple-effect it will most certainly have on neighboring economies too. It is for this reason sir, that I propose the idea that you established a State agency that will be saddled with the responsibility of reorienting our people on the best work ethics that is valuable currency in the global community which of course included Anambra state; self-employment opportunities, political participation and how to do it and, growing family as well as raising our children in a responsible and corrupt-free way.

Sir, this form of educating the citizenry has yielded fruits and continues to do so in countries like Singapore after attitudinal reorientation was introduced by the late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. So, I do believe it will be useful to us too.

How it will operate:

This agency will essentially promote the Igbo language, promote hard work, promote the discipline culture, promote education of the boy and girl child; promote respect for constituted authority (and possibly correct the Igbo-ama-eze impression). It will also promote the mindset of political participation not just in Anambra state but outside our State. It will touch on sanitation and personal hygiene; promote enthusiasm and healthy work ethics as well as promote the be-your-brothers-keeper attitude. My idea is to see a return to decency in conduct because when people are rightly taught the principles of life, they’re motivated to take responsibility instead of acting nonchalantly, and its economic value is great.

Furthermore, this agency will collaborate with the Anambra Broadcast Service to deliver contents that will trigger character building, stir public enthusiasm and patriotism as well as motivate the masses to lend their support to your administration and subsequent ones after you.

Conclusion:

The value of attitudinally reorienting any people is without doubt a great gain. Not only is the gain felt in the economy, it also affects the security, government business, the civil and religious lives of the citizens and most importantly opens the people to investment opportunities from abroad.

I wish to thank you sir, for the chance to share my thoughts with you and, it is my hopes that you will find this proposal strategic and, worthy of your attention.
